Antarctic Network Operators Group

Join us for the inaugural AQnog on Monday, January 13th, 2026 at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. This one-day event is dedicated to bringing together network operators who work with satellite and/or submarine cable connections in and around Antarctica. It is designed to be an international-friendly event.

Due to the politically neutral location, visa invitation letters are not required for most attendees.

The presentations will cover the challenges of providing network connectivity in one of the most remote regions of the world. If you would like to attend or have an interesting topic to present, please contact any of the individuals below.

Julien

Julien hails from Africa and has over 15 years of experience in the network engineering field. He has worked with major ISPs across the continent to improve infrastructure and connectivity. Julien was instrumental in establishing peering exchanges in several African countries and has a strong background in satellite communications. His passion for networking has brought him to the forefront of initiatives in remote and challenging environments. In his spare time, Julien enjoys performing as a semi-professional karaoke singer, bringing his vibrant energy to the stage.

Skipper

Skipper has spent his entire life in Antarctica, developing innovative solutions for maintaining reliable network connectivity in extreme conditions. He briefly worked in New York, where he gained valuable experience managing large-scale enterprise networks. Skipper specializes in low-latency satellite communications and is known for his resilience and problem-solving skills in harsh environments. When he's not navigating the complex world of networking, you can find him sailing his boat through icy Antarctic waters.

Kowalski

Kowalski

Kowalski is a lifelong resident of Antarctica with a deep understanding of the unique challenges of networking in polar regions. His brief stint in New York included leading a team of engineers in deploying cutting-edge data center technologies. Kowalski is a recognized expert in submarine cable systems and has been pivotal in projects connecting remote outposts to global networks. An avid aviator, he spends his free time flying planes over the pristine landscapes of Antarctica.

Rico

Rico’s career spans over two decades of networking excellence, with a unique focus on the Antarctic region. After gaining experience in New York, where he worked on high-capacity backbone networks, he returned to Antarctica to apply his skills locally. Rico excels in creating resilient network architectures that withstand extreme weather and isolation. He also has a creative side, as he designs intricate escape rooms that challenge and entertain both locals and visitors.

Private

Private, born and raised in Antarctica, has always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and the environment. During his brief tenure in New York, he worked on projects involving metropolitan network planning and fiber optics. Now back in Antarctica, Private focuses on deploying sustainable and efficient network solutions tailored to the unique demands of polar regions. Off the technical stage, he pursues his passion for acting, often performing in local theater productions.
